Ranchi, July 22. Leprosy affected people in Jharkhand capital Ranchi and its surrounding areas would have never imagined that they would have their own grand, beautiful and attractive home.
Their dream is going to come true on Tuesday with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will ceremonially inaugurate the Leprosy Colony built by JUIDCO in Mudma of Dhurva in a peaceful environment away from the city.
Out of 256 flats, 250 have been allotted through lottery by Ranchi Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister will also symbolically hand over the keys to 10 beneficiaries.
In all seven blocks of two-storied buildings in the Leprosy Home are built on five and a half acres. The total cost is Rs 35 crore.
This colony has been constructed entirely at the expense of the state government under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
Secretary of the state urban development department, Arwa Rajkamal, has said that this ashram has been constructed with the objective of raising the standard of living of leprosy affected people and making their living comfortable.
The cost of a flat is approximately Rs. 12 lakhs which is being given to the beneficiaries completely free of cost. He said that fans, tube lights, taps and other equipment of branded companies have been installed in the houses. A flat has a bedroom, living area, common toilet and bathroom and a large balcony.
Facilities of internal road, solar street light, boundary wall, parking, drinking water supply and rainwater harvesting have been provided in the leprosy ashram. Apart from this, facilities of park and lawn have also been provided for a clean environment. On this occasion, many ministers of the state government, regional MLAs and MPs of Ranchi will also be present. Officials of leprosy affected welfare organizations have also been invited. A hospital will also be opened by voluntary organizations in the colony.
