Ranchi: Dungri legislator Jairam Mahato, popularly known as ‘Tiger Mahato,’ made a strong debut in the first session of the Sixth Assembly of Jharkhand on Tuesday. In his maiden speech, Mahato urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally meet the candidates aspiring for the Jharkhand Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam, who have been protesting due to ongoing issues. “The CM should meet the CGL aspirants as they are also children of the state. He should listen to their sufferings,” Mahato said, highlighting the ongoing unrest among lakhs of candidates from Jharkhand.
The first session of the assembly commenced on Monday with the oath-taking of all the MLAs. On Tuesday, Nala MLA Rabindra Nath Mahato was elected as the Speaker. During this session, Jairam Mahato, known for his forthright views, raised two critical issues that have been making headlines in the state.
Jairam, who has earned recognition through his involvement in student movements, stressed that the youth of Jharkhand are deeply affected by the unresolved issues surrounding the CGL exam. He pointed out that the protesting candidates have taken to the streets, seeking justice. He urged the Chief Minister to step out of the assembly and engage with them, as they are “your own children” who deserve to have their concerns heard and addressed.
Before entering the assembly, Jairam had already made it clear that he would raise the issue of CGL candidates, which he did with passion during his speech. His call for the government to take immediate action and provide a solution was a clear reflection of his commitment to youth welfare.
In addition to the CGL issue, Jairam also raised a matter concerning 45 Jharkhand workers stranded in Cameroon, an African country. The workers are demanding their safe return, and Jairam urged the assembly to prioritize their safe repatriation.
Jairam concluded his speech by expressing his gratitude to the newly appointed Speaker, Rabindra Nath Mahato, and reiterated his resolve to tackle these pressing matters with urgency.
