Jharkhand CM meets physically challenged sportsperson delegation

 Hemant assures of all support for development of players

Ranchi, March 21: Physically challenged (Divyang) sportspersons met Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday.

The players under the aegis of Jharkhand Para Olympic Association informed about the accolades won by disabled players at national and international platform in different discipline.

The chief minister was informed that this year, eight players from Jharkhand were included in the Indian team which won the gold medal in the Para Throw Ball competition held in Nepal between 19-20 February. These players made the Indian team the champion of India by their excellent performance.

The chief minister was apprised that that most of the disabled players come from rural environment and their economic condition is also not very good. If cooperation and facilities are provided to them, they will perform better for the country and Jharkhand in future as well.

Hemant Soren  while congratulating the players of the para throw ball team, assured that the government is continuously taking steps in the interest of sports and players.

He told the delegation that in the coming days, Jharkhand will be able to achieve a different position in the world of sports. Jharkhand Para Olympic Association President Rahul Mehta, Secretaries Sarita Sinha and Patras Lakda, besides Jharkhand players Mukesh Kanchan, Pratima Tirkey, Asunta Toppo, who are part of the Indian throw ball team, met the Chief Minister.

Significantly, the Jharkhand chief minister has been stressing on improving sports infrastructure as well as social and economic status of players through direct recruitment in government and other sectors.

Later in the day, chief minister also met national level athlete and mountaineer, Asha Malviya from Madhya Pradesh. She informed the chief minister that she is undertaking an expedition across India on bicycle for the cause of women safety and empowerment from November 1, 2022 and the expedition is scheduled conclude on August 15, 2023 at Delhi. She hopes to travel 25,000 km in the expedition and has so far covered over 10,000 kms.

Chief minister congratulated and offered best wishes to the woman sportsperson for her initiative.
