Jharkhand CM launches SAHAY scheme to promote sports in rebel hit areas

Ranchi, Dec 15: Chief minister Hemant Soren promised sports nurseries in rebel hit areas and hoped that this areas will soon reverberate with laughters of sportspersons and tourists instead of bullets in coming years.

As many as 72,000 youths of 14 to 19 years from the Naxal-affected Chaibasa, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Khunti, Gumla and Simdega districts will get an opportunity to showcase their skills in the field of sports as Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched the first phase of the Sports Action Towards Harnessing Aspiration Of Youths (SAHAY) at Chaibasa on Wednesday.

Talented youth in sports up to Panchayat, Ward, Block and District level will get an opportunity to show their skills in other sports including hockey, football, volleyball, athletics. The scheme will be operated by the Sports Department. The objective of the scheme is to motivate the youth of Naxal affected areas towards a positive life by giving them an identity through sports. In the competitions organized under the scheme, winners and runners-up at the district and state level will also be honored by giving incentives

 “We have to try to change this picture to create an atmosphere of happiness in the remote forests of Jharkhand and efforts will be made to create a positive environment in the fields, barns, towns, so that no one can mislead our youth,” the CM said.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that since years some areas of Jharkhand have been affected by Naxalism, but attempts were made to make it frightening by other people, who do not know about the tribal, indigenous, language, culture and tradition here.

The Chief Minister said that sports nurseries would be established in the Naxal-affected areas.

“We have made sports a medium, so that Jharkhand’s identity can be established apart from minerals. Now instead of the sound of bullets, it will resonate with the laughter of the players and tourists. The Chief Minister said that the people here were not shown the way. While there was no dearth of talent among the people here, but it was not assessed. Players of Jharkhand are making a splash in the field of sports. Sahay Yojana has been started with the objective of promoting sports further. Sports will be organized at every level. I will personally monitor and assess the program in every six months,” chief minister said.
