HC rejects CM plea to quash MP/MLA case
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s petition seeking quashing of MP/MLA Case No. 2 of 2024, which stems from allegations that he ignored summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during the investigation into an alleged land scam.
The ED had filed a petition before a lower court accusing Soren of non-compliance with summons issued in the course of the probe. After taking cognisance of the ED’s plea, the lower court initiated judicial proceedings under MP/MLA Case No. 2 of 2024.
Challenging the lower court’s action, Hemant Soren moved the High Court seeking dismissal of the case. During the pendency of the matter, the High Court had granted him exemption from personal appearance before the lower court.
The matter was heard on Tuesday, following which Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary dismissed the Chief Minister’s plea, allowing the proceedings in the lower court to continue.
