Ranchi, July 8: The Jharkhand government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has announced plans to establish a Rehabilitation Commission, following a proposal approved in a recent cabinet meeting. This initiative aims to address long-standing concerns related to mining activities and their impact on local communities. The proposed commission will create a comprehensive database documenting mining areas in Jharkhand, including a detailed assessment of the losses incurred by local populations due to mining activities, an analysis of benefits received by affected communities, and the overall impact of mining. Based on these findings, the government intends to develop a policy to mitigate problems faced by people in mining-affected areas.
Responding to questions about the timely implementation of this long-demanded commission, CM Soren assured that his government would prioritize its establishment. He acknowledged the delay in addressing this issue but emphasized the government’s commitment to swift action. Soren also addressed the ongoing protests by assistant policemen, urging them to cease their demonstrations and engage in dialogue with the government. He stressed his administration’s willingness to address their concerns through constructive discussions.
The Chief Minister called for a review of all existing public interest schemes and previous policy announcements. He instructed ministers to gather information about prevalent issues in their departments and work towards finding solutions. Soren reiterated his government’s commitment to decentralized governance, referencing the ‘Sarkar Aapke Dwar’ program and plans to operate from villages rather than just the Project Bhawan. He promised to keep the public informed about upcoming changes in governmental working methods. This move signals the Jharkhand government’s efforts to address displacement issues and improve governance, particularly in mining-affected areas, while also emphasizing a more responsive and accessible approach to administration.
