Jamshedpur: The banned Naxal outfit, CPI-Maoist, carried out a postering campaign in the Sonua thana area of West Singhbhum, causing fear among local residents on Wednesday. The Naxals fixed banners and posters at several locations along the Sonua-Lonjo main road on Tuesday night, appealing for support to make the July 25 Jharkhand-Bihar Naxal bandh a significant success.
The banners and posters also announced that the CPI-Maoist will observe martyr week starting July 28, urging for widespread participation to ensure its success. In response, the police swiftly tore down all the posters and collected the banners, working to reassure and instill confidence among the local populace.
The Naxals took advantage of the darkness to put up these materials at key locations including Topotola Grid Chowk, Dingamarcha, and Madangjahir villages in Sonua, where their influence has been diminishing. This postering follows a similar incident on July 22, when the Naxals placed banners and posters at the Jhumpra weekly market in Sonua, resulting in a sparse turnout of vendors.
The posters at the Jhumpra weekly market contained anti-police and anti-paramilitary sentiments, calling on locals to expel paramilitary forces from the Kolhan, Porahat, and Saranda forest areas. As in the current incident, the police had removed those posters and banners, restoring normalcy to the market area.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are taking steps to ensure the safety and security of the residents in affected areas.
