Jharkhand bags 20 medals at National Masters Athletics Championship

Jamshedpur: Masters of Team Jharkhand bagged 20 medals at the 40th National Masters Athletics Championship held at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) stadium in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh from 5 to 10 February 2019. Total of 49 players from Jharkhand participated in various categories and won 5 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze medals to make the state proud. Former athlete of Jamshedpur Sanjeev Kumar Tomar won gold medals in 45 plus age group category and a silver medal in discuss throw.

Manik Lal Chatterjee (70) won a silver medal in 2000 meter obstacle race. The team led by Narayan Sahu (Age 80 plus) won a gold in 5000 meter race and bronze in 5 km walking contest. Tipriya Tiu (Age 75 plus) of West Singhbhum won silver medal in 800 meter race and bronze in 1500 meter race. Seven other athletes of Jharkhand also won medals. Another member of the team won a gold medal in 4*100 meter relay race in 75 years plus men category. The team will arrive in Jamshedpur on February 13.
