Jharkhand athletes exhibit stellar performance at Master Athletics Meet

Jamshedpur, Dec. 19: Master Athletics Association of Jharkhand for the first time organised state level Master Athletics Championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Sunday, December 19.

The meet was inaugurated by the chief guest Ashish Kumar, Head Sports, Tata Steel in presence of district council vice president Rajkumar Singh, District Sports Officer cum District Public Relations Officer Rohit Kumar, Lions Club Jamshedpur President and secretary.

Ashish Kumar congratulated the organisers and was impressed by initial success of the event and said that Jamshedpur is well prepared with adequate facilities to host such events.

District Council vice president Rajkumar Singh extended best wishes to the organizers and athletes.

Events started with the walking competition. 350 players from 12 districts of Jharkhand participated in the competition including Ranchi, Lohardaga, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela Kharsawan, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Khunti, Simdega.

Athletes exhibited stellar performances at the State Masters Athletics Championship.

A total of 54 events were held including track and field events 100 m race, a 200 m , a 400 m,  1500 m run, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and long jump.

In 100 mtr boys event Mukesh Mahato bagged the top spot followed by Rakesh Kumar and Ayush Kumar. In 100 mtr women event Sarita Kuraj was first, Manju Murmu was second while Akancha Minz was third.   

Secretary of Jharkhand Master Athletic Association cum International Medal winner SK Tomar and President of the association cum national level athlete Laxman Upadhyay played prominent role in making the event successful.

International Pole Vaulter Gurdev Singh, International Coach Arif Imam, International Player Mukesh Singh, coach Sanjeev Kumar, announcer KP Singh, former General Secretary of Telco Workers Union Chandrabhan Singh, former councilor Ganesh Solanki honored the winners with gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates.
