Ranchi, Feb 11: Marking a significant step towards digital governance, Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday inaugurated the NeVA Seva Kendra in the Jharkhand Assembly premises during the fifth Budget Session of the Sixth Assembly.
The initiative is part of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) project aimed at transforming legislative functioning into a fully digital and paperless system.
Describing the move as a milestone in modernising the state’s legislative processes, the Chief Minister said the NeVA platform would strengthen transparency, efficiency and time-bound disposal of legislative business.
Through the application, members will now be able to submit questions, notices and other legislative documents online, reducing dependence on lengthy paper-based procedures and late-night documentation work.
Soren noted that nearly 20 states across the country have already adopted the NeVA system to digitise their legislative operations, and Jharkhand is now advancing firmly in that direction.
As part of the programme, ministers and MLAs were provided with tablets to facilitate seamless access to the digital platform.
Future sessions are expected to see a broader implementation of the application for conducting Assembly business entirely online.
Highlighting the broader vision, the Chief Minister said that as Jharkhand completes 25 years of its formation, the state is entering a new phase of development driven by technological integration.
He credited Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato for spearheading the initiative to make the House paperless, stating that digitisation would enhance coordination, reduce paper consumption and accelerate official work.
Addressing concerns related to digital adoption, Soren acknowledged that initial challenges are natural when implementing new systems, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity.
He emphasised the importance of training legislators and officials on the security architecture and technical aspects of the NeVA platform.
A dedicated training session was organised alongside the tablet distribution programme.
Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, ministers, MLAs, senior officials and Assembly staff were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister and the Speaker jointly distributed tablets to the legislators, marking the formal rollout of the digital initiative in the Jharkhand Assembly.
