Ranchi: The Jharkhand Assembly witnessed a stormy session on Wednesday as BJP MLAs staged a massive protest against the state government’s alleged ban on DJ music during Ram Navami processions. The uproar led to multiple disruptions, with opposition leaders accusing the government of targeting religious traditions.
Heated Exchanges in the House
The protests began as soon as the Budget Session commenced. BJP MLA Navin Jaiswal spearheaded the debate, labeling the restrictions as “discriminatory” and an interference with the faith of the majority community.
“Imposing restrictions on DJ music during a major festival like Ram Navami is a deliberate attempt to undermine our traditions,” Jaiswal alleged during the session.
In response, Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav dismissed the allegations, stating that administrative regulations apply universally. He accused the opposition of trying to “politicize religious matters” and spread communal tension.
Demand for “State Festival” Status
Outside the House, Hazaribagh MLA Pradip Prasad took the protest further. Highlighting the global fame of Hazaribagh’s Sri Chaitra Ram Navami, he demanded that the government officially recognize it as a “State Festival.” Prasad issued a defiant warning to the administration: “Regardless of the rules, DJs will play in Hazaribagh. We will not compromise on our traditions.”
Speaker’s Intervention
Amidst the sloganeering and members trooping into the well of the House, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato expressed his displeasure. He urged the legislators to maintain decorum, noting that the ruckus was preventing discussions on critical public issues.
