Leveraging technology and skill development of teachers must for excellence in education: Narendran
Jamshedpur, Aug 22: JH Tarapore School and Tarapore School Agrico today won Dr JJ Irani Award for Excellence in Education at the Tata Education Excellence Programme annual award function. Out of a total score of 1000, the two schools attained over 600 points to bag the prestigious award.
Jusco School, Kadma, and Motilal Nehru Public School won Commendation for Outstanding Achievement of Excellence in Education by scoring below 600 and above 550. Commendation for Extraordinary Achievement in Excellence in Education was won by Jusco School, South Park and Kerala Public School, Mango.
The two schools scored above 500 and below 550. Commendation for Significant Achievement in Excellence in Education was won by Sant Nandlal Smriti Vidya Mandir, Ghatsila, Kerala Public School, Burmamines and Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco. Commendation for Strong Commitment to Excellence in Education was won by RMS High School, Khutadih and Kasidih High School. The two schools achieved above 400 and below 450.
The award function was held at Tata Auditorium, XLRI. TV Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel, was the chief guest for the occasion. In his address, Narendran, lauded the initiatives taken under TEEP but stressed that focus should be on leveraging of technology and teacher skill development. He said these initiatives would go a long way in shaping the future of new India.
Awards for the year 2017 were given away by Sunil Bhaskaran, Chairman TEEP & Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Devi Kar, Executive Director of Modern High School for Girls and the Founder Director of Modern Academy of Continuing Education, Kolkata, and TV Narendran, MD and CEO, Tata Steel.
In his welcome address, Bhaskaran congratulated the TEEP team for, not only sustaining the program for 15 years but revitalizing the program from time to time through various improvement initiatives.
N.K. Sharan, Vice President, Tata Business Excellence Group shared the performance highlights of the TEEP program over the years.
In her keynote address, Devi Kar, Executive Director of Modern High School for Girls and the Founder Director of Modern Academy of Continuing Education, Kolkata, spoke of the need for transformation in schools to address the digital and other future challenges.
Maithilee Jamsandekar, a Management Consultant, narrated her experience as a Jury member when assessing the award winning schools. She was impressed with the fact that not only had TEEP not lost its momentum over 15 long years since inception but also kept vibrant with continuous improvements.
A total of 38 schools had participated in the TEEP program. Most of these schools also participated in other TEEP initiatives such as EQUIP (Educational Quality Improvement Projects), Innoteaching (Innovation in Teaching methods), Pankh (Student led improvement stories, Pearl (Best Practice Sharing), Dare To Try (Learning from failures), Outstanding Activity Club and Teachers Award for excellence in teaching.
The TEEP Annual Award programme was attended by a large number of Principals, teachers and students and managing committee members of more than 50 schools, senior government officials, senior executives of Tata Group of Companies, Union leaders, retired executives, and senior citizens. Vidya Battiwala, P.Ramesh, Dr. Deepali Misra from Tata Business Excellence Group conducted the program.
The schools were also awarded for their participation in Improvement initiatives such as �Education Quality Improvement Projects� (EQUIP).Out of 30 EQUIPs received from various schools, 5 were recognized at the award function.
Another category of recognition was �PEARL -Good Practices of Schools�. Of the 80 promising practices identified by the assessment teams, 11 were recognized at the award function.
