Jamuna Tudu demands Rs 10 lakh compensation for elephant attack

Jamshedpur, August 12: On the occasion of World Elephant Day, a steering committee meeting was held in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar on Saturday under the supervision of the Forest and Environment Department on behalf of the Government of India. Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Minister of State for Forest and Environment Ashwini Choubey were present at the meeting.

Padmashree Jamuna Tudu participated in the meeting and ministers were informed about the increased nuisance of elephants in Baharagora in Jharkhand. She informed that that dozens of people have lost their lives so far in the attack of elephants.

 Elephants have destroyed hundreds of houses and damaged crops. The government should plant fruit trees and bamboo inside the forest as due to lack of food arrangement in the forest, elephants are coming towards the village.

Jamuna Tudu demanded in front of the ministers of the Government of India that the dependents of those who died in the elephant attack should be increased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh as compensation.
