Jamshedpur, Jan 28: Cyber thugs from Jamtara have fraudulently withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from the account of Patamda Degree College.
A complaint in this connection was lodged by the principal of the college, Suman Kumar Sen at the cyber thana in Bistupur on Thursday. in the complaint the principal has claimed that they has an account in State Bank of India and on Wednesday he received a call at around afternoon from the number 7866900847 and in the truecaller the phone number was shown as SBI.
On return call to the same number the caller identified himself as an employee of SBI and asked for information to update KYC (know your customer) with the bank as otherwise they would not be able to do any further transaction.
When the principal said that he would prefer to fill up the KYC at the bank itself, the caller said that they can update the KYC online also. At this the principal gave the number of college staff Vishwajit Mahato during the online process they got information that OTP would be sent on their mobile phone. When the principal refused to share the OTP the phone got disconnected. At this the principal started going for the bank and on the way the call came from the same number again and the principal handed over the phone to the bank manager and during the conversation the amount was withdrawn from the bank account through Novo Pay Solutions.
The cyber police has freezed the account and on taking the call records of the mobile phone it was found to have been from Jamtara.
