Jamshedpur : Every year SIGMA (Social Initiative Group for Managerial Action), XLRI Jamshedpur organises the Jamshedpur Joy Fest- DaanUtsav, earlier known as the Joy of Giving Week, from 2nd to the 8th of October.
This public festival of citizen philanthropy seeks to engage the entire city of Jamshedpur in the noble act of ‘Giving’ (Daan) by tying up with schools, industrial houses, various communities and the general public as well.
This year too, like the past five years, one of the major city-wide initiatives is Donation for Dignity, which invites donations for material resources, and distributing them to the under-served and needy segments of the society through NGOs and civil society organizations.
The specific initiatives include, Vastra-Samman- the donation drive to collect wearable clothes, blankets, shawls etc, Ann-Daanfor donation and distribution drive for dry ration including rice, lintels, biscuits etc. We also seek the donation of un-used medicines which we would contribute to the city-based NGO, Cause for Change.
The first phase of the initiative was kick started with the enthusiastic students of two well-known schools of the city, Baug-e-Jamshedand the Motilal Nehru Public School, contributing a generous amount of clothes, shoes & other useful commodities.
Through the subsequent phases of this initiative, about 20 schools, corporates and civil society organisations across Jamshedpur will be participating in this.
This festive season, we urge more & more donors to come forward & bring joy to the lives of the less fortunate, truly living up to the spirit of the ‘DaanUtsav’.
