Jamshedpur’s vaccination tally crosses 8 lakh mark

Jamshedpur, Aug 26: The East Singhbhum district created a record of sorts by administering 25524 Covid-19 vaccines on a single day. So far the district has administered about 8 lakhs vaccines. District health department officials confirmed that earlier the maximum figure was 22,730 vaccinations on a single day. The recent figure surpassed the previous highest figure.

Data revealed that on June 25, East Singhbhum had witnessed 22,337 Covid jabs. The maximum number of Covid vaccination was administered at various centres of Parsudih and Sundernagar.

Apart from online slot booking, vaccination was also provided at various centres on walk-in mode for those above 44 years of age. In-charge of the vaccination cell and Dhalbhum SDO Sandeep Kumar Meena expressed happiness over the jab drive in the district.

” The response has been overwhelming. Thanks to health department officials and others associated with the vaccination drive. There is no dearth of vaccines in the district. We want maximum people to get the benefit of the vaccination drive, ” said an administrative official.

A senior doctor said that awareness generated by the second wave of the pandemic, along with the exemplary work done by the health department in negating the rumors being spread about the vaccines. The health official explained that those who had already taken the first dose of vaccine and they need to travel abroad for their studies or work before the fixed date of second dose, will benefit from this drive.

The District Administration has  appealed to all the residents of the district that those who have not taken the second dose of Covaxin, will ensure to take their second dose as soon as possible.

By continuously running awareness campaigns through various mediums (social, print and electronic media) by the district administration, people are being made aware about vaccination as well as session sites are being organized for 18+ and 45+ age groups in regular urban areas .

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar had earlier directed officials to carry out large scale testing, treatment and surveillance in order to bring down active cases and new infections. Further instructions have been issued to individual district officials in a series of meetings to prepare for a possible third wave of infections.
