1st Jaipur Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament
Jamshedpur, June 2: Souryadipta Sarkar secured the first position in the Under-14 category at the 1st Jaipur Open Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, held from May 29 to June 2, 2024.
In a competitive field of 497 players from 27 states of the country, Sarkar, the 13-year-old boy from Jamshedpur’s Sonari locality emerged victorious in U-14 category, scoring an impressive 6.5 points in rounds.
His remarkable performance earned him a trophy, presented by the chief guest, and a cash prize of Rs 2500. Additionally, Sarkar’s efforts in the tournament saw him achieving a main rank of 39 and an increase of 50 in Elo rating. The chief guests on the occasion were former BJP MLA Kanhaiya Lal Meena and president, AICF, Anil Kumar Raijada.
The tournament, organized according to FIDE rules and the FIDE Swiss system, consisted of 9 rounds of intense competition. Sarkar’s success is a testament to his dedication and skill in the game.
Souryadipta’s coaches, International Master Niraj Kumar Mishra and International Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad, expressed pride and congratulated him on this significant achievement. They also conveyed their best wishes for his future, hoping he continues to excel in chess career. Souryadipta Sarkar is a student at Chandan Chess Academy, where he receives her training.
