Jamshedpur: Souryadipta Sarkar made an impressive mark by securing 6th position in the 2nd All India Open FIDE Rated Open Chess Tournament 2024, held at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar.
The tournament, organized by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association, saw participation from 157 players.
Sarkar earned a total of 7 points across 9 rounds, which were conducted under the FIDE Technology and FIDE Swiss System of Chess. His outstanding performance was recognized in the main prize category, where he received a trophy from the Chief Guest, along with a cash prize of Rs. 6000.
Souryadipta Sarkar’s achievement was lauded by his coach, International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra, and International Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad, both of whom extended their heartfelt congratulations. They expressed confidence in his continued success, noting his dedication as a student of Chandan Chess Academy.
In addition to his success in the main tournament, Sarkar also excelled in the Blitz Chess Tournament, where he secured 2nd position and received a cash prize of Rs. 2000.
