Jamshedpur’s Shanti Barla wins silver in 80m hurdles at National Masters Athletic Championship

Jharkhand bags 3 medals

Jamshedpur, April 28: The good performance of Jharkhand athletes continues in the 42nd National Masters Athletic Championship being organized by Masters Athletic Federation of India, (MAFI) from 27 April to 1 May 2022 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. On the day 2 of the championship on Thursday Jharkhand athletes performed brilliantly to bag three medals.

SK Tomar of Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) won bronze medal in discus throw event in 50 plus age group category.

Ranchi’s Laxman Upadhyay who is also the president of Jharkhand Masters Athletic Association won a bronze medal in 80 metres hurdles event.

Shanti Mukti Barla of Jamshedpur bagged silver medal in 80 metres hurdles event.

At the conclusion of second day team Jharkhand has won five medals including one gold, one silver and three bronze. With Championship slated to conclude on May 1, Jharkhand is expected to win more medals.

Laxman Upadhyay

Earlier during the opening ceremony of the championship on Wednesday, Laxman Upadhyay was the flag bearer of team Jharkhand.

On day 1, SK Tomar won gold medal in hammer throw event in 50+ age group category, while PG Soy, a resident of Gua in West Singhbhum bagged bronze medal in pole vault event in 55+ age group category.
