Jamshedpur’s Sarah Sharma clinches triple title in Jharkhand Junior Badminton Championship

Jamshedpur, Sep 19: Young badminton talent Sarah Sharma from Jamshedpur delivered an outstanding performance at the Jharkhand Junior (U-19) Badminton Championship cum Selection Trial, held at Mohan Ahuja Stadium, which concluded on Thursday. Sarah, a student of DSM School, Kashidih, secured a remarkable triple title, winning in the Under-19 singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.

In the Under-19 singles final, Sarah triumphed over Ranchi’s Ananya Singh to claim the championship. She then partnered with Ananya in the doubles category to defeat the duo of Debadrita Bagchi and Vaibhaviman from Dhanbad, securing another title. Sarah’s winning streak continued in the mixed doubles final, where she teamed up with Niraj Keshri to defeat Yuvraj Kumar and Yogita Bora, taking home her third title.

In the boys’ singles final, Suraj Pratap Singh from East Singhbhum emerged victorious, defeating Ranchi’s Niraj Keshri to become the champion. Additionally, in the Under-19 boys’ doubles final, the pair of Niraj Keshri and Sachine Gope bested Amaan Rahman and Ayaan Rehman to secure the title.

The impressive performances during the championship will be pivotal in selecting the Jharkhand team, which will compete in the Under-19 National Championship in Bhubaneswar, scheduled for November.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Sports, Tata Steel Mukul Vinayak Choudhari,  JBA Secretary K. Prabhakar Rao, Head Sports (Training Centres and Events) Tata Steel Vibhuti D Adesara, and coach Vivek Kumar, among others.
