Jamshedpur: With bed occupancy reaching over 100 per cent in most of the Covid hospitals in the city, the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee ( CGPC) has decided to introduce Covid Care facilities at various gurudwaras in the city. As a first step, a 20 bedded facility has been introduced at Modern School campus of Sakchi Gurudwara. The beds are equipped with oxygen supply. The initiative has been taken in association with the district health department.

Gurmukh Singh Mukhe, president, CGPC said due to the shortage of beds patients are left with no choice but to suffer. Family members of the patients are seen running for beds from pillar to post but in vain. The present situation has tempted them to convert the gurudwara premises as Covid care centres. The response has been overwhelming,” he said.

The president informed that CGPC has roped in two retired doctors Dr Swarn Singh and Dr Rajendra Singh for treating the patients at the centre and is in talks with other doctors who can visit the facility daily for patients admitted here.
He informed that the CGPC is in talks with the East Singhbhum administration to open similar centres at gurudwaras at Jugsalai, Sonari and Mango localities.
The president added that the patients who are in need of oxygen can be admitted to the Covid care facility but it cannot admit patients needing urgent medical care.
Mukhe said that several volunteers associated with the committee re willing to lend their services. He said that arrangements at the Sakchi Modern School building CCC have been made in line with the guidelines issued by the district health department.
The patients admitted at the centre are being served meals cooked by the CGPC. While services will be free for patients, CGPC is also taking care of the sanitation. The funds for procuring oxygen cylinders are being raised by the CGPC from within the community.
” We are keeping an eye on the prevailing situation and are trying to increase the number of beds in all the hospitals with support of the management of the hospitals concerned. Beside ensuring an increase in the beds at the hospitals having Covid wards, we are also trying to get Covid wards introduced in the few more hospitals, ” said AK Lal, district civil surgeon.
During the past 24 hours, about 1070 positive cases were detected in both under RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test.
An official said at present most of the COVID cases are emerging from within the city limit and are resulting in contact with the infected people. He pointed out the number of COVID cases is increasing fast and even the workers employed in big industries are being tested positive.
