Jamshedpur’s Mango to become new police subdivision, DGP to assess district-wise needs

Jamshedpur: In a major administrative decision, the state government has approved the creation of Mango in Jamshedpur as a new police subdivision. The proposal, moved by the Home, Jail and Disaster Management Department, received clearance on Monday from a high-level committee chaired by Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari.

While granting approval, the Chief Secretary directed Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta to assess the requirements of all districts for effective law and order management. She emphasized that such an exercise will help generate accurate data on the crime graph, emerging trends, existing resources, and the additional measures needed to strengthen policing. “Better distribution of resources will also be ensured to prevent crimes,” she added.

At present, East Singhbhum district has two police subdivisions — Jamshedpur (Headquarters) and Patamda. However, with Mango’s growing population, density, and urban sprawl, crime rates have risen, particularly in areas under Mango and Azadnagar police stations and the Olidih outpost.

Home Secretary Vandana Dadel said that a separate police subdivision was necessary to check the rising graph of economic offences, narcotics-related cases, and other crimes in Mango.

According to DGP Anurag Gupta, the new Mango Police Subdivision will be carved out of parts of Jamshedpur (Headquarters) and Patamda subdivisions, covering Mango, Azadnagar, and Olidih. “This move will bring policing closer to the people and ensure better supervision of sensitive areas,” he noted.

Finance Secretary Prashant Kumar and Personnel Secretary Praveen Toppo also presented issues concerning their departments before the committee and extended support for the formation of the new subdivision.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, was attended by Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms Secretary Chandrashekhar, Rural Development Secretary K. Srinivasan, and IG Narendra Kumar Singh. The committee unanimously agreed that the creation of the Mango subdivision would help in strengthening law enforcement and improving response to crime in East Singhbhum.
