Jamshedpur’s Ambagan Maidan to be renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Maidan

Jamshedpur: Quite a few organizations under the banner of Subhas Sanskritik Parishad organized a meeting at The Milanee Auditorium. The chief guest on the occasion was Jharkhand Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy.

He announced that on January 23, the Ambagan Maidan would be renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Maidan and this information was to be given to the government. �For this purpose, all organizations have to work in tandem. This is a social work.�

He further stated, �A gallery should be constructed in the Maidan. A light and sound presentation on the life and work of Netaji should be initiated and the script may be written at the local level. This project will not cost much.� Roy said that gradually a library and museum could be made. �We should not rely solely on the government but work on our own initiative,� he opined.

Saryu Roy advised that all the organizations should sit together and draw up a project and send it to the government authorities.

Parishad president Shekhar Dey welcomed the proposal of the Minister. He said, �A person who changes the trend of thought and ushers in a new era to wring in changes is a true leader. Subhas Babu was such a personality.�

Bikash Mukherjee wanted a research centre to be established. Prof BK Mishra opined that the misconcepts regarding Subhas Bose�s history needed to be cleared. Jharkhand Bangali Samiti chief Sudipto Mukherjee lamented that Netaji hardly featured in school and college text books.

Bang Bandhu�s Tarit Bhowmick said that in spite of several proposals January 23rd has yet to be declared a national holiday. The Bengal Club president Tapas Mitra said that mass encroachment in the Maidan should be immediately checked and a high mast light installed. He also demanded the setting up of a library and museum.
