Jamshedpur’s Adityapur Railway Station gears up for new train services amid redevelopment push

Jamshedpur: Adityapur railway station in the Chakradharpur division is almost ready to handle several new trains, including the Tata-Chhapra, South Bihar Express and Swarnarekha Express.

This step is aimed at easing passenger congestion and reducing traffic at Tatanagar station. In the coming months, multiple trains will begin operating from Adityapur and the station has undergone significant redevelopment, including the construction of a new station building, passenger rest house and ticket counter.

However, challenges remain. The approach road from Akashvani Chowk to Road No. 32 is still narrow and traffic jams continue to be a problem. Railway and district authorities must widen this road by removing encroachments before the station can fully function as planned.

Currently, Adityapur is classified as a Class 5 station based on ticket sales, with an average of 800 tickets sold daily. Despite this, no mail or express trains stop here at present and several passenger amenities are still lacking.

While work is underway to enhance facilities—such as the installation of three new lifts, escalators and a new foot overbridge—many projects are still incomplete. Notably, there are no parking facilities for two- or four-wheelers and a pre-paid taxi stand is absent. Efforts are being made to address these issues, with tenders for parking facilities and new food stalls expected soon. There is also a plan to install a water vending machine.

The station’s platform infrastructure is also under development, with platform 1 now extended to 600 meters to accommodate trains with 22 coaches. However, some facilities for handicapped passengers are still missing and the station continues to grapple with garbage accumulation.

The administration is working to resolve these issues and once all improvements are completed, Adityapur will be better equipped to handle the increased passenger load from the new train services.
