Jamshedpur: In a proud moment for Jharkhand, Jamshedpur’s rising chess prodigy Adhiraj Mitra clinched the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025, held in Malaysia from 7 to 16 November. His remarkable performance has brought immense pride to the city as well as the country’s growing chess community.
Competing against some of the strongest young players from across the Commonwealth nations, Adhiraj delivered an exceptional run through nine rounds, securing victory with two draws and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. His consistency, strategic depth, and calm under pressure helped him dominate the championship and emerge as the clear winner in his category.

Adhiraj, a student of Loyola School, Jamshedpur, has been steadily rising in the national chess circuit and has now made his mark on the international stage as well. His achievement highlights the growing strength of young chess talent emerging from Jharkhand.
His coach, Dushyant Das, expressed immense pride in Adhiraj’s performance. “He has shown extraordinary discipline and sharp understanding of the game. This gold medal is just the beginning of many more achievements to come,” he said.
