JAMSHEDPUR: A pall of gloom descended on the Mango region following a horrific road accident in the Bhuiyandih roundabout under Sitaramdera police station that claimed the life of a young man identified as Sudivya Roy.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim—a resident of Jawaharnagar Mango area — was traveling on his motorcycle when a speeding heavy vehicle (reportedly a truck) struck him from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that the youth was thrown onto the road and crushed under the wheels of the vehicle. He reportedly died on the spot before any medical assistance could reach him.

The driver of the heavy vehicle allegedly fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident, leaving the victim lying in a pool of blood.
As news of the accident spread, a large number of local residents and passersby gathered at the spot. Infuriated by the recurring accidents on this stretch, the mob staged a road blockade (chakka jam), disrupting traffic for several hours.

Protesters expressed their anger toward the local administration and traffic police, alleging that heavy vehicles frequently flout “no-entry” norms and speed recklessly through residential and narrow commercial zones. “This road has become a death trap. We lose young lives regularly because there is no check on these heavy vehicles,” said a local resident participating in the protest.

Upon receiving information, teams from the Sitaramdera and Mango police stations rushed to the site to pacify the agitated crowd. The police took custody of the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The authorities have assured the family of the deceased and the protesters that a formal investigation has been launched.

Efforts are currently underway to identify the killer vehicle and apprehend the absconding driver using CCTV footage from nearby commercial establishments and intersections.
