Jamshedpur, March 13: A young man has been arrested and jailed for attempting to murder a minor resident of a village in the Chandil police station area by poisoning her. The arrest comes 25 days after the incident occurred.
According to reports, on February 16, a minor girl from a village in the Chandil police station area went missing around 11 pm. She was later discovered unconscious near the Swarnarekha River, approximately two to three kilometers away from the village, on February 17 morning. She was rushed to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for treatment. The victim regained consciousness on February 20 and disclosed that a youth from the village had lured her into the forest at night and compelled her to consume poison.
Following a written application submitted by the victim’s father on February 22, urging an investigation and legal action, Chandil police conducted a thorough inquiry, culminating in the arrest of the accused youth. However, allegations of gang rape surfaced during protests held outside the police station on March 4. The in-charge of Chandil police station assured that further action would be based on the medical report.
The police are investigating all aspects of the incident.
