702 students to attend first convocation of Jamshedpur Women’s University

84 Gold medalist students from 2020 to 2023 to be deprived of medals

Convocation ceremony to be Live Telecast on YouTube and Website

Jamshedpur, Feb 29: The first convocation ceremony of Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) will be held on March 2. Preparations for the event are being finalized.  The chief guest of the function will be Jharkhand Governor cum Chancellor CP Radhakrishnan.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta informed that university plans to purchase a bus for transporting students and staff. Additionally, a 500-bed hostel in the new campus is set to begin operations soon, following approvals from the Syndicate and Finance Committee.

The ceremony at University’s Sidhgora campus will see 702 girl students receiving degrees, with 28 topper students being awarded gold medals in various subjects, said Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta.

Addressing a press meet at the university’s Sidhgora campus on Thursday, Vice Chancellor stated that post-graduate students spanning diverse academic disciplines, including Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Commerce, B.Ed, M.Ed, and B.P.Ed, are set to participate in the inaugural convocation ceremony at Jamshedpur Women’s University. Out of 1014 students during this session, 702 have registered to attend the convocation.

Dr. Anjila Gupta further said that post-graduate students spanning diverse academic disciplines, including Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Commerce, B.Ed, M.Ed, and B.P.Ed, are set to participate in the inaugural convocation ceremony at Jamshedpur Women’s University.

Also present at the press conference were Dean (Students Welfare) Dr Kishwar Ara, Registrar Prof. Rajendra Jaiswal, Controller of ExaminationDr. Ramaa Subramanian, Dr. Sanatan Deep from University’s press committee along with Dr. Manish, Dr. Pushpa Kumari and other faculty members were present.

The ceremony, which will be broadcasted live on YouTube and the university’s website, is expected to be a momentous occasion celebrating the academic achievements of the graduating students across various fields of study.

Vice Chancellor informed that a grand pandal with a seating capacity of 1000 people is under construction at the Sidhgora campus for the event. Entry for attending girl students will be allowed from 9 to 10 am, with subject-wise seating arrangements in place.

The university has introduced a dress code for the convocation. Girl students are instructed to wear a white salwar kurta with a red dupatta or white saree with a red border, or a cream-colored saree with a red border. Teachers are required to adhere to a dress code of cream saree with a red border or cream-colored pants with a white shirt.

A 55-gram silver medal with gold plating has been prepared by the university for the ceremony. However, it was revealed that 84 gold medalist girl students from 2020 to 2022 will be deprived of medals. Vice Chancellor Dr. Gupta explained that the Women’s University, previously an autonomous college under Kolhan University, cannot award gold medals to these students. The responsibility lies with Kolhan University, making it impossible for Jamshedpur Women’s University to confer the medals.

Jamshedpur, Feb 29: Talking to the media, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta also shared insights into the challenges faced since assuming office on June 22, 2022. Emphasizing the dynamic nature of each day bringing forth new hurdles, she commended the dedicated team at JWU for their unwavering commitment, particularly highlighting the hardworking teachers who consistently stand at the forefront to address any situation.

With only 21 out of the 61 approved teaching positions filled with permanent faculty, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the significance of these educators as valuable assets for the university. Despite the challenges, Prof. Gupta expressed overall satisfaction with her experience in leading the institution. The resilience and hard work demonstrated by the team have played a pivotal role in navigating the complexities encountered during her tenure.
