Students Take Collective Pledge for Health
JAMSHEDPUR: As part of the nationwide “Yogaasanam Bharat” Surya Namaskar campaign, Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) organized a special yoga session at the University Indoor Stadium in Bistupur. Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Anjila Gupta, the event aimed to promote physical and mental well-being among the youth.
The campaign, which runs from the auspicious occasion of Rath Saptami until February 19, saw enthusiastic participation from across various departments. Students from the PG 2nd and 4th Semesters (Yoga), Yoga Certificate Course, B.P.Ed. 1st and 3rd Semesters, as well as representatives from the NCC, NSS, and the university hostels, performed the sun salutations collectively.
The session was successfully conducted by Malay Kumar Day, District Secretary of the East Singhbhum District Yogasana Sport Association.
Boosting Mental Focus and Vitality
Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Dr. Kamini Kumari, Dean of the Faculty of Education, emphasized the holistic benefits of the practice. “Surya Namaskar does not just improve physical agility; it builds willpower and mental concentration. Such events are exceptionally beneficial for students as they aid in memory retention, mental peace, and overall intellectual development,” she stated.
Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle
The program was moderated by Yogacharya Ravi Shankar Newar from the Yoga Department, with a vote of thanks delivered by Saswati Maiti. Dr. Annapurna Jha, Coordinator of Vocational Courses, congratulated the participants on the event’s success. She noted that the primary objective was to inspire students toward a healthy lifestyle and make yoga a permanent part of their daily routine.
Faculty members from the B.P.Ed. Department also actively participated in the session, reinforcing the university’s commitment to holistic education.
