Jamshedpur: The Department of Geography at Jamshedpur Women’s University organised an educational tour to the Old Silk Route region in East Sikkim for PG Semester-IV students from March 20 to March 27, 2026. A total of 52 students participated in the tour.
During the visit, students explored key locations including Rishikhola, Aritar Lake, Aritar Monastery, Nimachen, Q Khola Waterfalls and Phadamchen Eco Nature Park. They also travelled to high-altitude areas such as Zuluk’s Zig-Zag Road, Thambi View Point, Gnathang Valley, Old Baba Mandir, Tukla Valley and Kupup Lake.
The tour aimed to provide practical knowledge of Himalayan geography, climate change, mountain ecosystems and human settlements. Students observed how climate and vegetation change with altitude and learned about environmental challenges and adaptation.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Assistant Professors Preeti and Somnath Haldar. It helped enhance students’ field study skills and research understanding.
