Jamshedpur: Women gain new confidence through skill development

DC assures enhanced training, market linkages, and administrative support

Jamshedpur:In a bid to strengthen women’s self-reliance in rural areas, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi on Thursday visited Ghatsila and Musabani blocks, where he interacted with women engaged in wood carving, sewing, and jute bag manufacturing. He assured them of improved training, modern equipment, design support, and wider market linkages to expand their livelihood opportunities.

During his field visit, the Deputy Commissioner met women artisans working at the Peepal Tree Institute in Ghatsila and the Maa Gayatri Mahila Samiti in Terenga village, Musabani. He praised the quality of their wood carving and jute products and encouraged them to take their craft to national and international markets. “The government’s goal is to empower rural women with sustainable employment. Your skill and dedication are your biggest strengths,” he said while interacting with the didis.

The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the “Sakhi Dor Sewing Center” in Ghatsila, which operates under the Rurban Mission. He spoke with women undergoing training in sewing and embroidery, listened to their challenges, and emphasized the importance of quality-based training. “These centers are not only making women self-reliant but also giving them a new identity in society. Skill-based businesses can open doors to large-scale employment,” he noted.

Expressing his delight at the enthusiasm of the women, Satyarthi said that rural women are now strengthening their families’ finances while becoming role models for others. He highlighted that such initiatives are in line with national objectives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Lakhpati Didi, and assured full support from the district administration for scaling up self-employment opportunities.

Women participants shared that training and support from the administration had given them new confidence to step out of their homes and convert their talents into livelihoods. “Now, we are not only supporting our families but also inspiring other women in our villages,” said one of the participants.

The visit was accompanied by Ghatsila SDO Sunil Chandra, Ghatsila BDO Unique Sharma, Musabani BDO Aditi Gupta, and other district officials.
