Jamshedpur, June 13: In two separate drowning incidents in and around the steel city, an 18-year-old youth was drowned in Satnala dam on Saturday evening, whereas a middle-aged woman was rescued from Kharkai river along Bagbera locality of the city on Sunday morning.
The woman identified as Priya Sharma of Bagbera Colony had jumped into the river at Kushum ghaat along Bagbera around. As she drowned in the river, another woman who was taking a bath nearby, saw her and raised voice for help. Two fishermen who were at the river side swung into action and saved the woman.
OC, Bagbera police station , Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed about the incident. “During investigation we found that that the woman wanted to commit suicide due to a family dispute, ” said Singh.
In the other incident, five youths from Azadnagar area of Mango went over to Satnala dam situated at Dobo village in the adjoining Chandil police station area on Saturday late afternoon. The youths who were in the age-group of 18-19 years.
OC, Chandil police station , Sanoj Chaudhury said four youths jumped into the dam for bathing. “The fifth one, identified as Aftab Hussain, too jumped into the water body though he did know how to swim. Soon Aftab was drowned, but none of the remaining four could save him, ” Chaudhury said.
The OC, Chandil police station said a team of NDRF which was at Jamshedpur was pressed into service on Sunday morning and the body was finally recovered.
