Jamshedpur, Sep 21: The death of a 24-year-old woman whose body was found lying in a room of an Oyo-tagged lodge under Adityapur police station area on Tuesday night has spread panic in the localities. The woman has been identified as Kanti Devi, a resident of Bosco Nagar. She was married and was having an affair with the assailant. She had checked in along with a 32-year-old man at the lodge, Hotel Subheksha.
The man, who escaped from the lodge sometime in the afternoon, was identified from his Aadhaar card xerox copy submitted with the lodge reception counter as Anwar Palwan alias Moinuddin, a resident of Kolkata.
After staying at room No 101 at noon, the man left the lodge at 2 pm for lunch. But as there was no call from the room service till late in the evening, the lodge service staff suspected foul play. On checking the room, they found the body lying on the floor. The lodge manager, Dilip Ghosh, had immediately informed the police.
OC, Adityapur police station , Rajan Kumar said the woman who was a resident of Kuchai was suspected to have been strangled to death by the man who had come along with the victim to the lodge. The police are conducting raids to nab the suspect.
“We are investigating the incident. As per the initial probe we suspect that they were having an affair. We have also recovered some objectionable things from the room. The murder victim and the suspected assailant were not married couple. We are trying to detect the case by means of an investigation, ” said Rajan. He said they are also studying the CCTV footage for a clue to the suspected murder.
The OC said they have sent the body to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem and are trying to contact the family members of the murder victim.
Later in the afternoon, Seraikela SP Anand Prakash rushed to the spot and inspected room no. 101 where the dead body was found. He said that the victim used to sell wishes and has a daughter.
