Jamshedpur woman dies in fire accident in kitchen

Jamshedpur:  A fire accident in the Hume Pipe Indranagar area under Sitaramdera police station has claimed the life of Saraswati Vishwakarma, a 45-year-old woman, who succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The incident, which occurred on the night of December 21, left Saraswati severely burnt after her saree caught fire while she was cooking on a traditional wooden stove.

According to reports, the woman was rushed to MGM Hospital immediately after the fire broke out. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Saraswati could not be saved and passed away during treatment on the night of January 18, 2025. She is survived by her three children.

Family members are devastated by the loss and the local community is expressing outrage at the continued fire-related accidents in the area. “We lost a beloved family member to something as preventable as this. It’s time people are educated about fire safety,” said a relative of the deceased.

In a statement, local authorities mentioned that Saraswati’s body has been sent for post-mortem. Police have assured a thorough investigation into the incident. “Accidents like these could have been avoided if proper precautions were taken. People need to be more aware of what to do in case of fire,” said an officer from the Sitaramdera police station.
