Jamshedpur: Residents of the Steel City turned out in thousands today to welcome 2026, transforming popular landmarks into a sea of celebration.
To celebrate the New Year, denizens of the city thronged to picnic spots and various tourist destinations to welcome 2026. Places like Jubilee Park, Dimna Lake, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam in Telco, and Kanderbera, NH 33, are flooded with picnickers.
The East Singhbhum district administration has made elaborate security arrangements and deployed policemen — both armed and lathi-wielding — along with executive magistrates to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
“This is the peak season for us, and we are cashing in on the rush. With the beginning of the season, people start visiting the zoo for picnics. However, on New Year’s Eve and January 1, we witness the maximum crowd,” said an official of Tata Zoological Park, adding that special arrangements have been made for the visitors. He also said that people from across the region visit the zoo during this time of the season.
Jubilee Park is another favourite destination for the citizens. The park experienced a huge influx of people who spent their day with family and friends, enjoying fun and food.
Places like Dimna Lake and Hudco dam also witnessed a huge rush. Resorts and motels on NH 33 are cashing in on the celebrations. On the other hand, celebrations in most hotels and clubs that began on the evening of December 31 continued till the early hours of January 1, 2026.
The people were busy dancing to various Bollywood numbers. Hotels in all categories lined up a variety of events to attract people. Hoteliers said that they get “reasonably good business” during New Year celebrations.
