Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur was like a second home to Ratan Tata, a city where the Tata Group was founded and where he actively participated in its development. As chairman, he made it a tradition to visit Jamshedpur a day before the annual Founder’s Day celebrations on March 3, participating with great enthusiasm.

Ratan Tata was deeply committed to the city’s progress, focusing on expanding the company and enhancing health facilities for employees. He consistently marked Founder’s Day with meaningful contributions to the community, such as inaugurating new facilities at the Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital and the Naval Tata Hockey Academy.

Ratan Tata launched GraphITI

Ratan Tata inaugurated GraphITI – Graphene Initiative of Tata Steel Limited and ISWP at Ramadin Bagan, ISWP (now Wire Division) on March 2, 2021, Jamshedpur.

This facility became the first in the country to produce one million tonnes of graphene, enabling the manufacture of various innovative products.

Setting up of the GraphITI is a testimonial of Tata Steel’s aspiration and determination to be a pioneer and a technology leader in the area of new material.

Ratan Tata inaugurated renovated building of MTMH

Additionally, he opened a new block at Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital on March 13, 2019, equipped with advanced facilities including Jharkhand’s first PET-CT machine, the hospital was been renovated at a cost of Rs 65 crores.

The hospital bed was increased to 128 beds from 72 beds following the new facility was made operational During this event, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and Tata Steel CEO and Managing Director TV Narendran were also present.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand government has announced one-day mourning in honor of the Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his sorrow, stating, “One day of state mourning is announced on the demise of former Tata Group Chairman and Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata ji, who brought recognition to the backward state of Jharkhand on the global stage. It is hard to believe that he is no longer among us. May his soul rest in peace.”
