Jamshedpur vegetable retailer pays Rs 10,000 fine for keeping banned polythene

Jamshedpur: A team of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee on Tuesday caught a vegetable retailer Ramesh Sahu alias Kalia red-handed while allegedly giving polythene bags to customers in Mohammedan Line, Sakchi, and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him for possessing banned polythene.

According to Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, stringent action would be taken against anyone found storing, using or distributing banned polythene bags in the city. He said the JNAC was making sincere efforts to free the city from the menace of polythene.

He said the amount of fine levied on the people using, storing or distributing banned polythene has been increased with the view to discourage people from violating the prohibition order. He said the campaign would continue indefinitely till the city becomes totally free from polythene.

The JNAC team also fined five traders and collected Rs 3000 form them for allegedly blocking a public road for commercial purpose. It comprised city managers of JNAC Jyoti Punj Pandey, Ravi Bharati and Sonal Singh.
