Police Presence and Identified Areas: The police have already identified popular spots where couples tend to gather, including parks, the zoo, shopping complexes, and cinema theaters. Uniformed and plainclothes police personnel will be stationed in these areas to ensure the safety and freedom of expression for couples on Valentine’s Day.

History of Opposition: In the past, certain outfits have attempted to protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations, claiming that the expression of love contradicts Indian culture and labeling it as ‘Western culture.’ Such protests have included burning Valentine’s Day greeting cards.

Official Statement: An official emphasized that everyone has the right to freedom of expression, and those who take the law into their hands will face strict consequences. The authorities are committed to ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for all, urging those with concerns or protests to express themselves peacefully.

Party Stances: The Shiv Sena party has declared its intolerance towards any form of vulgarity associated with Valentine’s Day. Simultaneously, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has appealed to the youth to refrain from ‘immoral’ or ‘indecent’ behaviour in public spaces on this day. A district leader emphasized that while they respect true love, expressions of love should adhere to social norms and cultural values.

Valentine’s Day Merchandise: On a lighter note, local businesses are offering a variety of Valentine’s Day-themed products. The Archies gallery in Bistupur showcases a range of gifts priced between Rs 1000 to Rs 1200. Special musical roses, bouquets, teddies, and chocolates are among the offerings. Florists are also busy creating innovative bouquets and gift items, including thermocol hearts with flowers, available at a premium price of up to Rs 4000.
