Jamshedpur, Sep 2: In a fierce encounter with ultras of CPI-Maoist, two Naxals, including a woman, were gunned down in a jungle under the Kuchai police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday morning. After the battle, the police and paramilitary forces seized several firearms and ammunition from the encounter spot.
The encounter took place in the Koya jungle along Baruda-Sorubera road under the Kuchai at about 4.30 am today.
The police have recovered two bodies which are yet to be identified. The dead Naxals were the members of Analda’s squad of the CPI-Maoist.
A police official informed that the Naxals in a joint operation by the CRPF’s CoBRA, Jharkhand Jaguar and the state police the Naxals were killed. During the operation, one Naxal camp was destroyed by the forces.
Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Anand Prakash confirmed about the two Naxals being killed in the encounter in a jungle in Kuchai.
“ Acting on an intelligence input that Analda’s squad was active in Kuchai. Based on the top off , we had started a special operation by the CRPF and its CoBRA battalions. Finally, the rebel squad was spotted in the Koya jungle, but soon afterwards the paramilitary forces were attacked with bullets by the rebel squad following which the paramilitary forces retaliated resulting in the death of Naxals,” said Anand Prakash.
The superintendent of police who rushed to the encounter site claimed that more Naxals were suspected to have been injured in the gunfire by the paramilitary forces.
Sources informed that the encounter lasted for over an hour, but following fierce relay paramilitary forces, the rebel squad had retreated. During the post-encounter search operation, two bullet-ridden bodies of the Naxals were found in the jungle,” narrated the senior police officer.
Anand Prakash informed that presently, the police and paramilitary forces are conducting a combing operation in the entire Kuchai area which is considered to be a Naxal infested area.
Meanwhile, the police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up the naxal infested areas of the district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary forces on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.
The district police have maintained that combing operation in the Maoist infested areas of the district will continue as usual and there is no let-up whatsoever.
“Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,” said another official.
According to an intelligence source, the Naxals usually shelter inside dense forest only. But if the joint operation is carried out effectively from either side, the Naxals have no choice but to bow down under pressure. Meanwhile, operation has been intensified in the Naxal infested areas of Rangamaati and Bachadera under Seraikela Kharsawan district.
