Jamshedpur: Two dead, six injured in bus accident on NH 33

Jamshedpur: Tragedy struck on NH-33 near Chandil on Friday morning as a bus carrying passengers met with a devastating accident, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving six others injured. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures in the region.
Two passengers were killed and about half-a-dozen others were injured as an interstate bus they were travelling in hit a trailer from behind on NH-33 under Chandil police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Those killed were identified as Jairani Devi (85) and Devendra Prasad Yadav (39), both residents of Nawada district in Bihar.

The bus, Shivashakti, was coming from Nawada to Jamshedpur when the mishap took place at Saharbera under Chandil police station area.

According to police, the bus which was at a moderately high speed had hit a trailer from behind, causing the front side of the bus to get badly damaged resulting in the fatalities.

Soon after the mishap, a police party arrived at the spot and carried out a rescue operation.  Despite two of the passengers already dead, the police rushed all the victims that include children to the MGM medical college hospital in the steel city.

Those injured include Madhu Verma, Munni Verma, Pratik Kumar, Anmol Kumar, Harsh Kumar and Shivaj. Several other passengers were released after first aid at the medical college hospital.

The ill-fated bus, en route from Nawada to Jamshedpur, veered off the road and overturned near the Chandil junction, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Local authorities, along with emergency services, rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls from witnesses.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the bus due to a mechanical failure, leading to the unfortunate accident. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was traveling at a high speed before the driver struggled to maneuver a turn, causing the vehicle to skid and crash.

Tragically, two passengers lost their lives on the spot due to the impact of the accident. Their identities have been withheld pending notification of their families. The injured, including children, were immediately rushed to the nearby MGM Medical College Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. The severity of their injuries varies, with some in critical condition.

As news of the mishap spread, distraught family members of the passengers involved in the accident gathered at the hospital, anxiously seeking information about their loved ones. The local administration has set up a helpline to assist families in locating their relatives and providing support during this difficult time.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures, particularly on NH-33, which has witnessed multiple accidents in recent years. Calls for improved infrastructure, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and regular maintenance of public transport vehicles have grown louder among local residents and activists.
