Baharagora, September 8: A young man died after being hit by a truck (WB 33 A 6321) on Friday afternoon near Globus Spirits Limited Company Gate located in Goholamuda of Barsol police station area.
The deceased Manik Dalai (37) was a resident of Goholamuda village. According to the information, Manik Dalai had come near the company gate while roaming around. During this time, after emptying the rice, a ten wheeler truck was coming out of the company and going towards the National Highway.
During that time, Manik got hit by a truck and died at the spot. As soon as information about this was received, a large number of villagers reached the spot and started protesting with the dead body. On receiving information about this, the police reached the spot and tried to convince the people.
The villagers were demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the maintenance of the family of the deceased. Villagers told that speed breaker should be installed at the turning in front of the company gate so that no vehicle can go at high speed.
Globus Spirits Limited in-charge Amarendra Pratap Singh said that the incident took place in front of the company gate. Therefore, as financial assistance, Rs 5 lakh will be given by the company to the victim’s family by 25th September. The furious villagers calmed down after the owner of the truck, Ram Bhakta Dutta, a resident of Chakulia, gave Rs 70,000 in cash on the spot, after which the body was allowed to be taken away. After which the police sent the body to Ghatshila for post-mortem.
