Jamshedpur truck driver loses job, commits suicide

Jamshedpur, Sept. 15: A 40-year-old man committed suicide by hanging at his house in Vikash Colony under Golmuri police station area. The deceased identified as Vishwa Ranjan Singh was a truck driver and had become unemployed ever since the lockdown had been imposed in April due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The deceased’s father died  on September 6. The deceased who was father of two minor daughters would remain in tense after he became jobless in April and after his father’s death he had gone into depression. Sub-inspector Ranjan Kumar of Golmuri police station said this to be a case of suicide.

“We are investigating the incident. Though the deceased left suicidal note as such, but from the statement given by her wife it appears that the man committed suicide due to depression. We have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College Hospital for COVID test before shifting it to the medical college mortuary in Dimna for autopsy,” said the sub-inspector.

The deceased’s wife Varsha Singh said that family members had taken dinner at night and all went to bed. In the morning, �he did not open his room. They called in the neighbours who broke open the door to find him hanging from the ceiling fan.
