Jamshedpur, July 23: Making a shocking revelation, city police here arrested Ramchandra Singh Jamuda, the driver of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum, as the culprit behind the sensational triple murders at Golmuri Police Lines.

Addressing a press conference at his office, SSP Prabhat Kumar said his driver had committed the triple murder in a rage.

“The accused had an affair with the woman constable Savita Hembram who was posted at the SSP office. He had problem with her alleged affair with another man. On the night of 19th July, the accused reached Savita’s flat around 10.30 pm and remained there till midnight. He had an altercation with Savita over her affair. Enraged over the issue, he attacked her on head with a gear rod. When Savita’s 13 year-old daughter Geeta reached the room on hearing her mother’s cry, the accused also assaulted her with the rod. Within next few moments, Savita’s 75 year-old mother Lakhia Murmu also reached the room and was similarly assaulted by the accused. The accused kept assaulting the victims till all three of them fell dead,” said the SSP.

After committing the heinous crime, the accused locked the flat from outside and fled the scene. Next day, he did not go on duty. Thereafter, on 21st July he came on duty and started driving the SSP’s vehicle.

When investigators reached a relative of the deceased, they suspected Ramchandra’s role in the killings. During interrogation, the accused spilled the beans and confessed having killed the three women. He told cops he wanted to kill Savita’s new boyfriend. He said he had befriended Savita in 2016, a year after she got a police job on compassionate ground after the murder of her husband in 2014.

According to the SSP, Ramchandra is a married man and a resident of Kagalnagar, Sonari. Ramchandra regularly visited Savita’s flat.

The SSP said several teams comprising SP City K Vijay Shankar, ASP Subhanshu Jain, all DSPs and officers in-charge of Golmuri and Sidhgora police stations were jointly investigating the triple murder case. He said the team solved the case within 15 hours of the incident and also recovered the death weapon (gear rod) and the clothes of the accused as evidence.
