Jamshedpur traders meet Governor, demand abolition of Mandi Tax

Jamshedpur, March 28: A delegation of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SCCI) led by president Vijay Anand Moonka met Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais in Ranchi on Monday and handed him a memorandum demanding exemption for all traders from paying Mandi Tax.

At the meeting, Moonka said various state governments had abolished Mandi Tax. Chhatisgarh state government recently put an end to Mandi Tax, he said, adding that the time had come for the Jharkhand government to do away with the provisions of Mandi Tax with immediate effect.

“Mandi Tax collection had been stopped in Jharkhand earlier. But once again the tax is being imposed on the traders. This is not justified as food-grains traders are already facing slump due to online businesses. If the Mandi Tax is not abolished, our very existence would be threatened,” said Moonka.

The Chamber members also requested the Governor to order measures for starting flight services from Jamshedpur They said the absence of airport in the city was a roadblock in the city’s progress.

Bais listened to the delegation and assured them of taking all possible measures on issues raised by them.

The Chamber members also met state health minister Banna Gupta and shared their demands with him. The Minister assured to take a considerate view of the demands, said Moonka.
