Jamshedpur to host state-level Master Athletics Championship on Dec 19


Jamshedpur, Dec. 17: For the very first time, Master Athletics Association of Jharkhand will organise one-day state level Master Athletics Championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on December 19.

Ahead of event, former international pole vaulter and chairman of Master Athletics Association of Jharkhand Gurdev Singh, association’s general secretary cum international medal winning athlete SK Tomar, treasurer cum national champion of walking race Manik Lal Chatterjee, joint secretary cum former national level athlete Mukesh Singh and former national sprinter Sabu Joseph addressed press meet at the Association’s office in Ghorabanda on Thursday. Giving information about the preparations, SK Tomar said that the competition will begin at 9 am and will conclude with prize distribution at 5 pm.

Former international, national, state level players and general category people above 35 years of age representing several districts of Jharkhand will participate. He informed that more than 200 participants have registered themselves while total of 4 age groups have been formed for male players above 35 years of age. First- age group 35 to 49, second-50 to 59, third- 60 to 69 and fourth-above 70 years.  . For There will be 2 age groups for women first-35 years to 49 years, and second above 50 years.

Total of 50 events will be organised in male and female categories. For men 100 m, 400 m, 1500 m, 3 km walk, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw, while women events include 100 meters, 200 meters, 1 kilometer walk, long jump, shot put, discus throw and javelin throw. Apart from this, a total of 4 events are being organized in the boys and girls category for players above 16 years in the open category. A total of 54 events will be organized in the competition. Successful participants will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in addition to merit certificates.
