150 amateur golfers to vie for top honours at Golmuri greens
Jamshedpur, Oct 17: Steel City’s Golmuri Golf Course is set to host maiden Eastern Region Golf Tournament for amateurs on October 19-20. The two-day event will feature 150 golfers from Ranchi, Patna, Kolkata, and beyond, including 50 participants from Jamshedpur.
Nav Jivan Jyoti, a Ranchi based NGO with the support from the Jamshedpur Golf Committee and Coal India Ltd. will be organising the tournament for the very first time in Jamshedpur.
“150 golfers including 50 from Jamshedpur will be part of the two-day tourney to be held under three categories: Ladies, Junior, and Men. Among the participants, 15 will be women,” said Sumit Kumar Mahato, Secretary, Nav Jivan Jyoti.
Addressing a press meet at Golmuri Club on Thursday, Mahato informed that the entry fee for participants from outside Jamshedpur is Rs 11,500, covering food and lodging.
Digvijay Singh, CEO, Jamshedpur Golf, said that winners in the Men’s and Ladies’ categories will receive an International Golf Holiday Voucher for destinations in Thailand and Vietnam, while the junior section winner will be awarded a trophy.
Organisers further said that Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence will be the chief guest for the tournament while P M Prasad, Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Ltd. will be the guest of honour.
Replying to a query, Dr. Anil Kumar confirmed that juniors will play a 9-hole course, while the men and ladies will compete on an 18-hole course at Golmuri.
NGO Nav Jivan Jyoti has been organising golf tournaments in Ranchi for 16 years, and this will be the first time the event is held in Jamshedpur.
“The tournament aims to foster talent, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among eastern region golfers. Nav Jivan Jyoti plans to make this an annual event, growing in scope and excitement with each passing year,” Sumit Kumar Mahato added.
Also present at the press conference were Dr. Anil Kumar, Rajiv Kumar and Sushant Kumar from Jamshedpur Golf Management Committee and Sushant Kumar Mahato from Nav Jivan Jyoti NGO.
