Jamshedpur to host Cricket League for Sikhs from April 7

Jamshedpur, March 30: The Second Tennis Ball Cricket League for Sikhs (CLS) will be held from April 7 to 9 at Co-operative College Ground, Bistupur. Organized under the aegis of the Central Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC), the event aims to provide a platform for Sikh youth to showcase their sporting talent.

CGPC President Sardar Bhagwan Singh, General Secretary Amarjit Singh, and Gurcharan Singh Billa, along with Sports Wing members Baljeet Sansoa, Sukhdev Singh Bittu, and Gurnam Singh Bedi, shared details about the league. They stated that after the resounding success of its inaugural edition last year, CGPC is excited to host the second edition.

Addressing a press meet at CGPC office on Sunday, Organizing Committee chairman Bhagwan Singh emphasized the importance of sports for Sikh youth. He urged them to move away from the virtual world of mobile phones and step onto the field to demonstrate their talent. He added that the Kolhan region’s Sikh youth should take full advantage of this platform to hone their cricketing skills.

According to Amarjit Singh and Gurcharan Singh Billa, the winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs 5,000 along with the championship trophy, while the runner-up team will be awarded Rs 2,500. Additionally, individual awards will be presented for Player of the Match, Player of the Series, Best Batsman, and Best Bowler. All players from the winning and runner-up teams will also be honored with medals.

Technical Director Baljeet Sansoa announced that a minimum of eight and a maximum of 12 teams will be allowed to participate on a first-come, first-served basis. So far, five teams have confirmed their participation.

Sukhwant Singh Sukhu informed that this tournament is dedicated to the Sikh festival Khalsa Creation Day (Baisakhi). While preparations took some extra time this year, there are plans to align the league with the Hola-Mahalla festival from next year.

As per the tournament guidelines, only Sikh players are eligible to participate. Non-Sikhs and those who have shaved their beards are not allowed. Teams interested in joining can collect entry forms from the CGPC office or get more information by contacting 9934123704 and 9006174272.

CGPC Chairman Sardar Shailendra Singh urged parents to encourage their children to take part in this prestigious sporting event.
