Jamshedpur, June 2: Saraikela Kharsawan District Chess Association will organise B T Rao Memorial one day state open Rapid Chess Championship on Friday, June 3 at Autocluster, Adityapur.
Late B. T Rao was former Jt. Secretary of All Jharkhand Chess Association.
Late B. T. Rao passed away at the age of 82. He was one of the pillars of the Chess organisation not only in Jamshedpur but also in the undivided Singhbhum. He happened to be from the field of Volleyball but his contribution for the game of Chess is unforgettable.
BT Rao was the organising secretary of the Tata International Open Chess 1994 which attracted 435 participants, a record then. The event is still remembered by the players across the country. Later, he was assigned to develop and propagate the game in the newly formed Seraikela District. He also acted as Secretary for a year in 2012-13.
Interested participants can submit their entries till June 2 by paying entry fee of Rs 400 via Gpay, Phone pay or Paytm to 7779852130. The event is open for Jharkhand players registered with All India Chess Federation for the year 2022-23.
Prize money of Rs 14,000 is up for grabs. Top 10 prize winners will be awarded cash prize.
The winner will pocket Rs. 4500 and a trophy. Apart from cash prizes to ten, the top 3 finishers Boys and Girls will be also be given trophies in Under – 10, 12, 14, 16 age categories.
The best performance by an unrated player will be recognised.
