9th AGM: New patron DB Sundara Ramam welcomed, executive committee for 2025–28 formed
Jamshedpur, Aug 30: The Horticultural Society of Jamshedpur (HSJ) has announced the dates for its much-awaited 35th Annual Flower Show, which will be held from December 28, 2025, to January 1, 2026. The declaration was made by Chairperson Ruchi Narendran during the Society’s 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the SNTI Auditorium, Bistupur, on Saturday. She also unveiled the schedule and brochure for the Flower Show and “Garden of the Year” competition, which will take place on January 10 and 11, 2026.

Highlights of the AGM
The meeting began with a welcome address by HSJ President Sumita Nupur, who extended greetings to Chairperson Ruchi Narendran, newly inducted Patron of the Society, Mr. D.B. Sundara Ramam (Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel Ltd), and all members present. She also welcomed three new members attending their first AGM.

Nupur recounted the Society’s activities over the past year, including the highly successful 34th Annual Flower Show and the 41st Rose Convention-cum-Rose Show. The events witnessed record ticket sales and participation, with more than 230 delegates from across India attending the convention. Other highlights included the inauguration of the Rose Garden, its opening to the public, and the celebration of World Environment Day with the creation of “Manbhawan,” a themed garden based on the concept of “Best out of Waste.”

She thanked Tata Steel Ltd and Tata Steel UISL for their continued support and credited Chairperson Ruchi Narendran for her valuable guidance. She also highlighted free workshops organized for gardeners (Malis) and informed members that the Society’s website is now fully functional for sharing updates and event information. Looking ahead, she outlined upcoming plans such as workshops, the Flower Show, Garden of the Year, annual picnic, and Rose Garden maintenance.
New Rose Variety Dedicated to Ratan Tata
Presenting the Secretarial Report, General Secretary Dr. Anuradha Mohapatra detailed the year’s events, including the Annual Flower Show, which recorded a footfall of over 85,000 visitors, and the Garden of the Year competition, which saw enthusiastic participation across Jamshedpur.
She proudly announced the release of a new Rose variety bred by Sanjay Mukherjee and dedicated to Ratan Tata during the All-India Rose Show. The new variety has also been named after Ratan Tata, a gesture warmly appreciated by members.
Dr. Mohapatra expressed gratitude to outgoing Patrons Capt. Dhananjay Mishra and Chanakya Chaudhary for their years of support, especially in providing office space to HSJ. She also thanked sponsors, vendors, exhibitors, members, and media partners for their role in making the Society’s events a grand success.
Treasurer Bipin Kumar presented the audited financial report, which was unanimously approved by the members.
New Patron and Executive Committee
Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Ruchi Narendran praised the Society’s achievements and reiterated its commitment to promoting horticulture in the region. She officially declared the dates for the Flower Show and Garden of the Year contest, unveiling the event brochure alongside.
The AGM also marked the induction of Mr. D.B. Sundara Ramam as the new Patron of the Society. Members warmly welcomed him to the fraternity, acknowledging his role as Vice President of Corporate Services, Tata Steel Ltd.
During the session, members raised queries and suggestions, which were addressed by the President, General Secretary, and Treasurer.
The Chairperson further announced the new Executive Committee for the term 2025–2028. The team includes: President – Sumita Nupur; Vice Presidents – Pranay Sinha, Colonel Earnest Paul, and Ashwani Srivastava; Honorary General Secretary – Dr. Anuradha Mohapatra; Honorary Joint Secretaries – Jayanta Ghosh and Krishnendu Shaw; Treasurer – Bipin Kumar; Assistant Treasurer – Jagdeep Singh Saini; and Coordinators – Manoj Kumar and Jyoti Hansda.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Joint Secretary Ashwani Srivastava.
