Jamshedpur to boast of India’s first hydrogen fuel industry

Jamshedpur, July 30: Steel City of Jamshedpur is set to witness the establishment of the country’s first hydrogen fuel industry. Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave nod to the nation’s first hydrogen fuel related industry to be set up at an investment of over Rs 350 crore in Jamshedpur

This groundbreaking initiative paves the way for the use of hydrogen fuel in vehicles across the nation. The Chief Minister sanctioned the establishment of the hydrogen fuel industry in collaboration with TCPL Green Energy Solutions Private Limited (TGESPL), a joint venture between Tata Motors Limited and Cummins Inc. USA. The capacity of the proposed unit will be over 4000 Hydrogen IC Engine/Fuel Agnostic Engine and 10,000+ Battery system for which the total investment will amount to Rs 354.28 crore.

The upcoming factory will employ cutting-edge technology for manufacturing hydrogen engines. This venture is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for approximately 310 individuals. Moreover, the project has been included in the state government’s industrial policy for 2021, further boosting its significance.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has granted his consent for the signing of a crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s TGESPL. The MoU pertains to an investment proposal eagerly awaiting approval from both the Single Window Clearance Committee and the High-Power Committee. The proposed investment aims to establish a cutting-edge manufacturing unit for Advance Chemistry Battery, H2 Fuel Cell, and H2 Fuel delivery systems.

This strategic move by the Chief Minister signifies the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable technologies and alternative energy sources. The envisioned unit has the potential to revolutionize the energy sector and contribute significantly to the country’s pursuit of cleaner and greener solutions.
